Morocco’s Tourism Sector Maintains Positive Momentum in 2026
The Moroccan tourism sector continues its positive trajectory in 2026, driven by a steady increase in visitor arrivals and the enhancement of key activity indicators. The latest data confirm the Kingdom’s growing appeal among major tourist source markets.
According to figures published by the Direction of Financial Studies and Forecasts (DEPF), Morocco received nearly 9.4 million tourists through all its border posts by the end of June 2026, representing a 6% increase compared to the same period the previous year.
This performance is largely supported by rising arrivals from several traditional markets. Tourists from France increased by 9%, while those from Germany grew by 14%, Belgium by 9%, the Netherlands by 10%, and Italy by 6%. Poland experienced the highest growth, with an impressive 32% increase. Arrivals from the United Kingdom rose by 4%, compared to a 9% increase for American visitors.
The latest economic note from the DEPF also indicates that the added value of the tourism sector grew by 8.1% in the first quarter of 2026, following an 8.7% increase in the same period in 2025, further confirming the tourism sector’s contribution to the dynamic of the national economy.
The activity of classified tourist accommodation establishments is also showing improvement. The total number of overnight stays increased by 9% by the end of May 2026, following a 12.4% rise during the same period a year earlier.
Several destinations have recorded remarkable performances. Ouarzazate leads with a 24% rise in overnight stays, followed by Rabat (18%), Agadir (13%), Casablanca (12%), and Marrakech (10%). The cities of Tangier and Errachidia each noted an 8% increase, while Fez saw a rise of 7%, Essaouira 6%, and the Al Haouz province 4%.
Meanwhile, travel receipts have continued to progress, reaching nearly 53.8 billion dirhams by the end of May 2026, marking a 14.6% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
These results bolster the prospects for another record year for Moroccan tourism, supported by robust international demand and the Kingdom’s enhanced attractiveness in global markets.
