The President of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, announced on September 18, 2026, the appointment of Fathallah Sijilmassi as Special Envoy for the G20 and global affairs.
According to the African Union, this mission aims to strengthen the continent’s strategic engagement with the G20 and key international and multilateral platforms.
Sijilmassi will specifically contribute to consultations with member states and international partners to facilitate better coordination of African positions on major global issues: global governance, international financial architecture, trade, sustainable development, climate, and technology.

Fathallah Sijilmassi has previously served as Morocco’s ambassador to France, director of the Moroccan Investment Development Agency, and secretary-general of the Union for the Mediterranean.
