Fès: Nearly 50 Participants in the 4th Edition of the Open Para-Karate Kata Tournament

L’événement a été organisé par la Fondation Mohammed VI pour les personnes en situation de handicap – Centre de Fès, en partenariat avec la Fédération royale marocaine de karaté et disciplines associées ainsi que l’Université Euro-Méditerranéenne de Fès. Les compétitions se sont déroulées au Centre Euro-Méditerranéen sportif de l’université.

Expanding National Participation

This edition saw the participation of athletes from various regions of the Kingdom, with the inclusion of new cities, notably Tangier. This expansion illustrates the gradual growth of para-karate practices on a national scale.

The organizers highlighted the increasing momentum of this discipline, driven by awareness-raising efforts and guidance, as well as the growing interest from participants.

Notable Progress in Technical Performances

Participants showcased kata demonstrations—codified technical sequences—amidst a competitive yet friendly atmosphere, receiving enthusiastic applause from the audience.

The athletes’ technical level showed notable improvement, with several achieving higher ranks, reflecting their commitment and continuous progress.

Competition Results

The competition recognized 11 participants with first place, another 11 with second place, while 28 participants were awarded third place. The entire event was conducted in a spirit of discipline and fair play.

Sport as a Lever for Social Inclusion

In a statement to MAP, Sanaâ El Ouazzani, director of the Fès Center of the Mohammed VI Foundation for People with Disabilities, noted that this annual event allows participants to showcase their skills and progress in the discipline.

She also emphasized the positive impact of karate on developing physical and psychological abilities, along with boosting self-confidence.

Bouchra El Akhal, vice president of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Karate and Associated Disciplines, described the event as a true “sporting celebration,” highlighting the importance of including people with disabilities.

For her part, Zineb El Medghari, director of cultural and sports affairs at the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fès, reminded attendees that this initiative aligns with the university’s efforts to enhance social integration and openness to the community.

A Growing National Movement

Finally, the organizers underscored the geographical expansion of participation and the rise of para-karate in Morocco, reflecting a desire to democratize access to adapted sports and promote values of inclusion, discipline, and personal achievement.
