Global Mercedes-Benz Sales Decline Due to Slowdown in Chinese Market

Mercedes-Benz recorded a decline in its global sales for the second quarter of 2026, heavily impacted by a significant drop in performance in the Chinese market. The competition among local and international manufacturers continues to intensify.

According to data released by the German automaker, global vehicle deliveries fell by 8% year-on-year from April to June, totaling approximately 417,800 units. This decline is occurring amid a reduction in demand across several key markets.

China was the primary reason for this poor performance. Sales of Mercedes-Benz in the country plummeted by 30% compared to the same period last year, driven by the rise of Chinese manufacturers, who are particularly active in the electric vehicle and premium model segments.

Conversely, the group saw better performance in other strategic markets. Sales increased by 10% in the United States during the second quarter, while Europe experienced a 4% boost, which helped mitigate the impact of the decline witnessed in China.

These results highlight the growing challenges faced by international automakers in the Chinese market, where local manufacturers are enhancing their competitiveness with more innovative models, advanced technologies, and more attractive pricing.
