Morocco and Mali Strengthen Their Cooperation in Water and Meteorology Sectors

The Minister of Equipment and Water received today the Minister of Energy and Water of the Republic of Mali, Mr. Tiémoko Traoré, accompanied by the Ambassador of Mali to Morocco, Mr. Fafré Camara, along with a delegation of Malian officials, in the presence of the Secretary General of the Ministry and the Director General of Hydraulics.

This meeting falls within the context of the fraternal and historical relations uniting the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Mali. It provided an opportunity to reaffirm Morocco’s commitment to support Mali in facing the water and climatic challenges that the region is experiencing.

A Moroccan Support for Mali’s Water Program

During this meeting, the Moroccan side proposed a structured support for Mali’s water program through the development of a new cooperation agreement accompanied by an action plan and precise monitoring indicators.

The Minister also presented the main outlines of the national water policy, in accordance with the High Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, particularly the ongoing program for dam construction, the implementation of “water highways,” the desalination of seawater, the reuse of treated wastewater, and the use of mobile water treatment stations benefiting rural areas.

Mali Interested in Moroccan Expertise

For his part, the Malian Minister expressed his country’s interest in several Moroccan solutions, particularly in the areas of early warning systems, water quality, mobile water treatment stations, rainwater harvesting, and water management mechanisms.

The two parties also discussed the prospects for cooperation in training and enhancing the capacity of Malian officials at specialized Moroccan institutes, as well as supporting Mali in the field of meteorology, including studying its accession to the World Meteorological Organization and sharing expertise on the artificial rainfall program.

Toward a New Framework for Bilateral Cooperation

At the end of this meeting, the two officials agreed to prepare a new framework for cooperation and organize exchange visits to strengthen bilateral partnerships and support joint efforts for water security and sustainable development.
