The Finnish Embassy in Morocco and the Moroccan Association for Drinking Water and Sanitation (AMEPA) organized the inaugural edition of the Morocco-Finland Circular Economy Dialogue 2026 on Monday at the headquarters of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) in Rabat. This meeting aims to enhance economic and commercial cooperation between the two nations in the field of circular economy.

The event was chaired by Marjaana Sall, the Finnish Ambassador to Morocco and Mauritania, and Tarik Hamane, the president of AMEPA and director general of ONEE. It brought together around one hundred representatives from the public and private sectors, academia, and development partners from both countries.

Discussions focused on Finnish experiences in circular economy initiatives, particularly the implementation of the national roadmap, as well as governance in this sector, water management, and waste treatment. Participants also explored opportunities for developing sustainable cooperative projects and concrete partnerships between Morocco and Finland.

The meeting specifically highlighted the importance of water resource management, emphasizing the reuse of treated wastewater, the enhancement of network efficiency, and the application of digital tools, while taking into account the unique characteristics and needs of the Moroccan context.

Through this first edition, AMEPA and the Finnish Embassy aim to strengthen the exchange of expertise and promote the emergence of new joint initiatives that serve the sustainable development goals of both countries.
