Russian Ambassador to Morocco Highlights Energy Cooperation Opportunities
Igor Belyaev, the Russian Ambassador to Morocco, stated that the Kingdom’s initiatives aimed at developing liquefied natural gas (LNG) reception and regasification infrastructure are likely to enhance cooperation between Rabat and Moscow in the energy sector.
In remarks reported by the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, the diplomat emphasized that the provision of liquefied natural gas represents a promising area for economic collaboration between the two nations, especially as Morocco continues to strengthen its energy infrastructure and diversify its supply sources.
According to Belyaev, establishing facilities dedicated to the reception and regasification of LNG will pave the way for new suppliers to enter the Moroccan market, thus opening up avenues for partnerships between Russian companies and Moroccan players in the gas sector.
The Russian ambassador also discussed potential cooperation in the realm of green hydrogen, which is viewed as a cornerstone of Morocco’s energy transition strategy.
He noted that the development of Morocco’s green hydrogen program presents Russian companies with opportunities to engage in pilot projects before participating in larger-scale investments in this vital sector.
These statements come at a time when Morocco is rapidly advancing the implementation of several major projects in the energy field, aiming to diversify its supply sources, boost investments in renewable energy, and solidify its position as a regional hub for green hydrogen production and export.
