Violence Erupts Amid Celebrations of Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League Final Qualification

The celebrations following Paris Saint-Germain’s qualification for the Champions League final turned chaotic on Wednesday evening in Paris and its surrounding areas, leading to urban violence, confrontations, and numerous arrests.

127 Arrested

According to French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, a total of 127 individuals have been arrested in Greater Paris, with 107 of these arrests occurring in the capital. These incidents transpired after the match between PSG and Bayern Munich.

The reports indicate that there were 11 injuries, including one person seriously wounded as a result of a pyrotechnic device, alongside 23 police officers suffering minor injuries during the crowd control efforts.

Celebrations Descend into Chaos

Several neighborhoods in Paris experienced heightened tensions and acts of vandalism after PSG secured their place in the final against Bayern Munich. The Parisian club booked their ticket to the final following a 1-1 draw, capitalizing on a 5-4 victory from the first leg.

Authorities Vow Firm Response

Laurent Nunez condemned the violence and assured that security forces would adopt a strict stance during the Champions League final, where PSG will face Arsenal in Budapest on May 30.

The minister stated that systematic interventions would be implemented to prevent further disturbances and ensure public order is maintained.
