Fires in Spain: France Sends Aircraft to Support Containment Efforts

On Thursday, France announced the deployment of two Canadair aircraft and one coordination plane to Spain in response to a request for assistance made under the European Civil Protection Mechanism, as the country grapples with significant wildfires.
French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau confirmed the mobilization on his social media account, stating that “Spain, affected by numerous and violent wildfires, has called for European solidarity.” He added that “as of this morning, two Canadairs and a coordination plane will take off from the Nîmes civil security base to aid the Spanish authorities.”
This assistance comes amid a backdrop of devastating fires in Spain, exacerbated by a severe heatwave that has been impacting the Mediterranean region for several days.
