SRM Drâa-Tafilalet: A Day of Water Awareness

Raising Awareness for Water Conservation in Drâa-Tafilalet
On World Water Day, the Regional Multiservice Company of Drâa-Tafilalet organized an awareness day on April 1, 2026, aimed at educating students and the general public about the best practices for water usage and fostering a culture of conservation for this essential resource.
Participants at the event were provided with practical advice and insights regarding the rational use of water. They also had the opportunity to learn about professions associated with drinking water distribution and liquid waste management, as well as the technical equipment used in network operations.
During the event, the company showcased its key programs and projects aimed at securing drinking water supply in the region. As part of this initiative, eight water reservoirs will be constructed in the provinces of Ouarzazate, Zagora, and Tinghir, with an estimated investment of around 70 million dirhams between 2026 and 2027. These infrastructures will increase storage capacity by over 13%, bringing it to more than 58,000 cubic meters.
In response to challenges posed by water stress, exacerbated by climate change and demographic pressure, the company is also participating in the emergency program initiated by the state. This program plans for the establishment of 33 brackish water desalination stations, with a total capacity of 164 liters per second, equating to nearly 5 million cubic meters per year. To date, 22 stations have already been commissioned across the region.
Furthermore, the company is continuing its efforts to valorize alternative resources, particularly through the reuse of treated wastewater. This technology is already operational in Zagora, while significant projects exceeding 46 million dirhams are planned for 2026 in the provinces of Midelt and Ouarzazate, aimed at gradual implementation.
Lastly, to enhance the efficiency of distribution networks, a budget of 14.5 million dirhams will be allocated in 2026 for maintenance and leak detection. Additionally, a total investment of 384 million dirhams is earmarked for the rehabilitation and expansion of networks, as well as for boosting storage capacities, ensuring sustainable and quality public service for citizens.
