Tanger Ibn Battouta International Airport Sees Significant Growth in Passenger Traffic
Tanger Ibn Battouta International Airport continues its growth momentum, with a more than 9% increase in passenger traffic during the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year. This upward trend underscores Tanger’s growing appeal as a tourist, economic, and international destination.
According to the latest data from the National Airports Office (ONDA), the airport welcomed 1,402,756 passengers during the first six months of 2026, up from 1,286,297 passengers in the same period of 2025, marking an approximate 9% increase.
International traffic remains the predominant aspect of the airport’s operations. In the first half of the year, 1,285,214 passengers utilized international routes, representing a 10% rise compared to the same timeframe in 2025.
On the domestic front, approximately 117,542 passengers traveled, reflecting a slight decline of 0.87% year-over-year. Thus, the growth in activity was primarily driven by international connections.
The number of aircraft movements also saw a significant increase. Tanger Ibn Battouta Airport recorded 10,874 flight movements during the first six months of 2026, compared to 9,816 in the same period of 2025, indicating a 10.7% rise.
June further confirmed this positive trend. The airport served 260,965 passengers, up from 247,151 in June 2025, translating to an annual increase of 5.5%.
This growth comes against the backdrop of a continuous rise in air transport in Morocco, driven by increasing travel demand and the expansion of air connections between the Kingdom and various international destinations.
On a national scale, Moroccan airports welcomed approximately 18.83 million passengers during the first semester of 2026, compared to 17.30 million in the same period of 2025.
Passenger traffic across the Kingdom’s airports has thus risen by 8.83% year-over-year, reinforcing the positive dynamics present in the air transport sector.
These results bolster the growing importance of Tanger Ibn Battouta Airport within the national airport network. The increase in international traffic and the number of flights align with Tanger’s development as both a tourist and economic hub, enhancing its role as one of Morocco’s main international air gateways.
