AMMC: Bassil Zekri Appointed Director of Markets

The Moroccan Capital Market Authority (AMMC) has announced a new appointment at the helm of its Markets Department. Bassil Zekri has been appointed to this position in October 2026, following a 21-year career with the regulator, during which he held various roles related to the supervision and operation of financial markets.
This appointment comes after a career marked by responsibilities across different areas of the capital market. It reflects the continuation of his experience within the institution, which he has gradually built through several operational and managerial positions.
A 21-Year Journey with AMMC
During his years at AMMC, Bassil Zekri was notably responsible for collective investment schemes before taking charge of market infrastructures.
These roles have brought him into various segments of the Moroccan financial ecosystem, in an environment marked by the demands for supervision, transparency, and the proper functioning of markets.
His rise to the position of director of the Markets Department thus extends a professional journey largely dedicated to regulatory mechanisms and financial infrastructures.
Initial Experience in the Trading Room of Attijariwafa Bank
Before joining AMMC, Bassil Zekri worked within the trading room of Attijariwafa Bank, where he was in charge of interest rate activities.
This banking experience allowed him to evolve through exposure to market operations before continuing his career in financial regulation.
His background thereby combines an understanding of market functioning with responsibilities held within the authority tasked with their supervision.
Contributing to the Development of the Futures Market in Morocco
Bassil Zekri is also a member of the Coordination Authority of the futures market. In this role, he participated in the preparatory work and operationalization of the futures market for financial instruments in Morocco.
The development of this market represents a key aspect of the evolution of the national financial ecosystem, particularly in terms of diversifying available instruments and managing risks associated with market fluctuations.
With his appointment as director of the Markets Department, Bassil Zekri takes on new responsibilities within the AMMC, following more than two decades dedicated to market activities and their regulatory oversight.
