Green Industry: Morocco Launches a New Phase of Its Eco-Industrial Parks Program
Morocco Advancing in Sustainable Industry Development
Morocco is taking a significant step forward in developing its sustainable industry. The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has issued a call for expressions of interest to establish a national network of consulting firms that will support businesses located in various eco-industrial parks starting in 2027.
Implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, with financial support from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of the Swiss Confederation (SECO), this program aims to transform Moroccan industrial zones into more competitive ecosystems that are resource-efficient and aligned with ecological transition goals.
Five Pilot Industrial Zones Involved
The new phase of the program will target five strategic industrial platforms distributed across the Kingdom:
- The industrial park of Sélouane (Nador)
- Atlantic Free Zone (Kénitra)
- Aïn Johra (Tiflet)
- Jorf Lasfar (El Jadida)
- Tassila (Agadir)
These sites will serve as laboratories to develop innovative solutions for sustainable resource management, circular economy practices, and the decarbonization of industry.
A National Network of Experts to Support Businesses
The call for expressions of interest aims to select Moroccan consulting firms specializing in energy efficiency, industrial water management, production process optimization, and circular economy.
Selected firms will receive specialized training provided by UNIDO before being mobilized, starting in early 2027, to perform technical diagnostics within participating companies.
The program will cover key areas including:
- Energy efficiency;
- Sustainable water management;
- Material and energy flow analysis;
- Industrial waste valorization;
- Lifecycle analyses of products;
- Carbon assessments and decarbonization strategies.
Enhancing Competitiveness Through Ecological Transition
Technical studies will help identify concrete solutions to reduce energy and water consumption, limit raw material losses, optimize industrial processes, and develop synergies among companies located within the same industrial park.
This approach is expected to enable industries to simultaneously improve their economic and environmental performance while meeting new international sustainable development requirements.
A More Resilient Industry Facing Climate Challenges
The program aligns with the national strategy aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Moroccan industry while accelerating its transition to a low-carbon model.
In the face of dwindling natural resources, rising energy costs, and new environmental standards imposed by international markets, eco-industrial parks represent a strategic leverage point for modernizing the national industrial fabric.
Applications from consulting firms are open until July 31, 2026. Pre-selected firms will participate in a training session organized in Rabat in October, ahead of the commencement of the first technical missions anticipated for early 2027.
