Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid in Tétouan: Launch of the “Kan Yama CAN” Program

On Friday, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, the Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, conducted a field visit to various cultural institutions and youth platforms in the province of Tétouan. He was accompanied by Governor Abderzak El Manssouri, local officials, as well as cultural and community representatives.

Among the visited establishments were the Sidi Daoud Educational Center (Youth House, Women’s Club, and Reception Center), the youth hostel in the medina, and the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA), where he announced the completion of modernization works.

Launch of the “Kan Yama CAN” Program

This visit was part of preparations for the rollout of new national programs aimed at young people. During this occasion, the minister announced the launch of the “Kan Yama CAN” program—an initiative that will transform youth facilities into interactive spaces dedicated to:

  • Broadcasting CAN matches,
  • Organizing parallel sports activities,
  • Offering artistic and cultural workshops,
  • Creating spaces for dialogue and promoting positive citizenship.

According to Mr. Bensaid, this program aims to support significant sporting events held in Morocco, particularly the final phase of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Engaging with Youth: A Ministry Priority

The minister emphasized the importance of ongoing dialogue with the youth, a dialogue initiated in Tétouan during this tour. He interacted with community leaders and young representatives from the province regarding:

  • The social and economic impact of sporting events,
  • The opportunities they may provide to youth and small enterprises,
  • Ways to raise awareness and support young people to maximize the benefits of these events.

Mr. Bensaid stated that his department will work to address the concerns raised, whether they relate directly to youth programs or other related sectors.

A National Tour to Strengthen Youth Programs

The ministry plans a national tour across all regions of the Kingdom to:

  • Present its new programs,
  • Listen to community stakeholders,
  • Strengthen youth involvement in Youth Houses.

The minister described this initiative as an “open workshop,” dedicated to listening, interaction, and enhancing opportunities for Moroccan youth.

Reopening of the INBA in Tétouan: A Modernized Center of Excellence

Following the complete rehabilitation of the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA), the minister expressed pride in the national and international recognition of this institution, whose graduates—both Moroccan and foreign—hold key positions in the global arts market.

The works carried out focused on:

  • Developing educational infrastructure,
  • Modernizing technical equipment,
  • Improving learning conditions,

thus reinforcing Tétouan’s status as the Moroccan capital of visual arts.

Enhanced Academic Offerings in the Visual Arts

The director of INBA, Mehdi Zouak, indicated that the rehabilitation followed a scientific approach. The institute now offers:

  • A Master’s program in contemporary art and digital skills,
  • A forthcoming doctoral cycle,
  • Three specialized branches: design, society, and narrative visual arts.

This multifaceted development aims to elevate the educational landscape for the arts in Morocco.
