The Director General of National Security on a Working Visit to Sweden

The General Director of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Mr. Abdellatif Hammouchi, conducted a working visit to Sweden on April 20 and 21, accompanied by a significant security delegation comprised of senior officials from both institutions.
Enhancing Security Cooperation
According to an official statement, this visit is part of a joint effort to strengthen cooperative relationships between Moroccan and Swedish security services. It aims to expand their partnership into new operational areas, particularly in the exchange of expertise and technical assistance.
High-Level Discussions
Mr. Hammouchi held a series of discussions with several key Swedish officials, including the Minister of Justice, the National Police Commissioner, and other national police leaders. The talks focused on security issues of mutual interest and ways to coordinate efforts against emerging threats on both regional and international levels.
Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding
Following these discussions, both parties signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at structuring and enhancing their security cooperation. This agreement specifically includes the intensification of information sharing, the development of police training, and improvements in response mechanisms related to combatting terrorism and organized crime.
Combating Transnational Threats
The document addresses several areas of cooperation, including the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, financial crime, cybercrime, human trafficking, and irregular immigration, with the establishment of rapid information-sharing procedures between the two countries.
Recognition of the Moroccan Security Model
The Swedish side expressed its interest in the Moroccan security model, commending its effectiveness in combating cross-border crime. Furthermore, it proposed the integration of Moroccan security services into certain European mechanisms for tracking wanted individuals.
Field Visits and Exchange of Expertise
The visit also included tours of various units within the Swedish police force, including intervention units and services specialized in cybercrime, to enhance the exchange of experiences.
An Expanding Strategic Partnership
This mission exemplifies, according to the statement, the willingness of both countries to bolster their security cooperation and to cement a lasting collaboration in the face of common challenges, thereby reaffirming Morocco’s role as a reliable partner in international security and stability efforts.
