Abdelaziz Alaoui Reelected Vice President of the International Mutual Association for Africa and the Middle East

Abdelaziz Alaoui has been reelected as Vice President of the International Mutual Association (AIM) for the Africa and Middle East region during the general assembly held on June 23, 2026, in Leiden, Netherlands. This new term will span from 2026 to 2029.

In a statement, the Moroccan Interprofessional Mutual Fund (CMIM) emphasized that this reelection reflects the renewed confidence of AIM members in Alaoui’s efforts to promote mutuality, strengthen social protection systems, and advocate for the values of solidarity within the region.

A Record Marked by Strengthened Regional Cooperation

During his previous term, Abdelaziz Alaoui significantly bolstered the position of the Africa and Middle East region within the AIM. One of his notable achievements was organizing the International Conference in Bujumbura, which gathered over 200 participants from 24 African countries, alongside representatives from the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations, and the African Union.

His work has also emphasized advocacy for universal health coverage and recognition of the role of mutual societies in public health and social protection policies. Additionally, he has facilitated the development of new partnerships with regional and international organizations, promoting South-South cooperation and expanding AIM’s regional network.

A Roadmap Focused on Innovation and Resilience

For his term from 2026 to 2029, Abdelaziz Alaoui has outlined a program aimed at further enhancing AIM’s presence and utility for its members in Africa and the Middle East.

The announced priorities include strengthening the strategic role of regional governance bodies, creating working groups focused on critical issues such as access to medicines, digital health, resilience of social protection systems, and crisis management.

The program also plans for the development of new cooperation tools and expertise sharing among members, intensified advocacy efforts with African and international institutions, and the promotion of best mutual practices at the regional level.

Acknowledgment of Morocco’s Role in Social Protection

According to the CMIM, this reelection is also a recognition of Morocco’s growing role in regional and international cooperation dynamics related to social protection and mutuality.

It reflects the Kingdom’s contribution to discussions and initiatives aimed at promoting more inclusive, sustainable, and accessible health systems in the countries of Africa and the Middle East.
