Dacia Sandero Surpasses One Million Units in France, with Tangiers at the Heart of Production

The Dacia Sandero has just reached a significant milestone in the French market, surpassing one million units sold since its launch. A remarkable achievement that directly involves Morocco, particularly through the Renault factory in Tangier, which has become one of the main production and export sites for this model to European markets.

In a report dedicated to the Sandero, BFM Business explored the various stages of its production within the industrial complex in Tangier, from component preparation to final assembly, followed by the transportation of vehicles via a logistics chain connecting the factory to the Tanger Med port.

Since becoming operational in 2012, the Tangier factory has gradually established itself as one of the key industrial hubs of the Renault group. Production of the Sandero began here as early as 2013, alongside other models from the manufacturer.

Surpassing the milestone of one million vehicles sold in France confirms the Sandero’s popularity in one of Dacia’s primary markets. The brand announced on September 2nd the delivery of the millionth vehicle registered in France since the model’s launch in 2008, which includes both the Sandero and Sandero Stepway versions.

According to Dacia, the Sandero has also become the best-selling new car to individuals in France over the past ten years, reflecting solid demand for this model.

Morocco plays a crucial role in this dynamic. In 2025, the Tangier factory produced 222,257 Sandero, according to Renault group data.

However, the site is not limited to this model. It also produces the Dacia Jogger and the Renault Express. Spanning an area of 300 hectares, the industrial complex employs over 6,000 people.

Together with the SOMACA factory in Casablanca, the Tangier site serves as one of the primary pillars of Renault’s industrial activities in Morocco. The two factories collectively produced more than 394,000 vehicles in 2025.

At this level of production, Morocco has established itself as the second-largest industrial platform for Renault in the world by production volume. Production in the Kingdom accounts for approximately one in six vehicles sold globally by the group.

This achievement is also supported by a robust logistics infrastructure dedicated to export, linking Moroccan production sites to a vast network of suppliers and various transport infrastructures.

Renault’s industrial ecosystem in Morocco includes 87 tier-one suppliers, many of which are located near the industrial zones around the Tanger Med port, significantly reducing distances between the various production stages.

Once off the assembly lines, the cars can be transported directly by rail thanks to the two railway lines present within the factory. Daily rotations facilitate the transportation of vehicles to the port platform.
