Morocco: 19 Billion Dirhams Invested to Modernize Road Infrastructure Ahead of the 2030 World Cup
Morocco is accelerating the modernization of its transport infrastructure in preparation for the 2030 World Cup. The Kingdom is launching an ambitious investment program estimated at nearly 19 billion dirhams, aimed at developing roads, highways, and strategic connections to key sports facilities.
Among the priority projects is the improvement of access to the future Grand Stadium of Casablanca, located in Benslimane, which is expected to be one of the major venues for the global competition.
Road Infrastructure at the Heart of the Development Strategy
According to the Ministry of Equipment and Water, the development of road infrastructure is a key pillar of public policy. This approach is part of the Kingdom’s strategic vision to enhance the economic attractiveness of the country, improve citizen mobility, and support territorial development.
The ministry emphasizes that these investments serve a dual purpose: to prepare for significant international events and to sustainably support Morocco’s economic and social growth.
Projects Accelerated by International Events
In a response delivered to Parliament, the Minister of Equipment and Water stated that hosting international events and Morocco’s bids for future global occasions have contributed to hastening the completion of several major infrastructural projects.
These initiatives mobilize considerable financial and technical resources to ensure smooth traffic flow, enhance visitor experiences, and strengthen Morocco’s image as a modern and competitive destination.
A Long-Term Vision Beyond the 2030 World Cup
The authorities stress that these investments are not solely linked to sporting events. They represent a long-term strategy aimed at making infrastructure a major lever for economic development, attracting investments, and creating jobs.
Improving the road network is also expected to enhance connectivity between regions and reduce territorial disparities.
One of Africa’s Most Developed Highway Networks
Today, Morocco boasts a highway network of approximately 1,800 kilometers, supported by nearly 1,600 engineering structures. This infrastructure plays a central role in the development of tourism, commerce, and economic exchanges among the various regions of the Kingdom.
With this new investment program, the country aims to take a significant leap forward in modernizing its infrastructure and consolidating its position as a regional hub for transport and logistics.
