OCP Resumes Fertilizer Exports to the United States Following the Suspension of Tariffs

OCP Group has commenced its first shipments of phosphate fertilizers to the United States following the suspension of anti-dumping and countervailing duties by the U.S. administration. This measure is expected to enhance the supply to the American market while reducing agricultural input costs for farmers.
According to the specialized media outlet DTN Progressive Farmer, the initial cargoes of Moroccan fertilizers benefiting from this exemption are now on their way to the U.S. This decision comes after a presidential proclamation published on June 29, temporarily suspending the duties applied to phosphate fertilizer imports from Morocco.
A Long-Awaited Measure for American Farmers
The suspension of tariffs follows several months of requests from American agricultural organizations, grappling with rising fertilizer costs and disruptions in international markets.
Discussions between the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the U.S. Trade Representative culminated in this decision, aiming to alleviate financial burdens on agricultural producers.
A First Shipment of 54,000 Tons
U.S. Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Stephen Vaden indicated that American authorities have worked closely with officials from OCP North America to finalize the logistical aspects related to the delivery of an initial shipment of approximately 54,000 tons of phosphate fertilizers.
This shipment is expected to arrive at the Port of New Orleans, the primary entry point for these products in the American market.
An Anticipated Decrease in Costs for Farmers
The USDA estimates that the suspension of duties could lead to a reduction of up to 22% in the cost of phosphate fertilizers.
This decrease would represent an annual saving of approximately $1.82 billion for nearly 100,000 American farmers, amid ongoing tensions in global supply chains.
Although prices have not yet shown significant declines, U.S. authorities are optimistic that the effects of this measure will gradually become evident as new shipments enter the market and supply increases.
OCP Strengthens Its Presence in a Strategic Market
The suspension of tariffs will remain in effect until next February. There is no limit on the volume of imports, allowing suppliers to ramp up shipments during this period.
This decision enables farmers to secure their supplies at more competitive prices in anticipation of upcoming growing seasons.
The U.S. is one of the world’s leading markets for phosphate fertilizers. With its significant phosphate reserves and industrial expertise, OCP is solidifying its position among global leaders in fertilizer production and export.
