Tarik Hamane Elected President of the Moroccan Association of Drinking Water and Sanitation

Tarik Hamane, the Director General of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), has been unanimously elected as the President of the Moroccan Association of Drinking Water and Sanitation (AMEPA). His term will span four years, covering the period from 2026 to 2030.

This election took place during a recent general meeting of the association held in Rabat, aimed at renewing its governing bodies.

Reorganization of Governance Structures

The general assembly established a new Board of Directors and an Executive Bureau to enhance governance in the sector. The Board now consists of 27 members, while the Executive Bureau includes 12 members representing various public and private stakeholders in the drinking water and sanitation sector.

Adoption of Reports and Statutory Reforms

Participants reviewed and approved the association’s moral and financial reports. An important resolution to amend the AMEPA statutes was also adopted. This reform aims to align the organizational framework of the association with developments in Morocco’s water sector, enhancing its operational efficiency.

Strengthening Industrial Sovereignty

The new direction of AMEPA focuses on reinforcing industrial sovereignty in the field of drinking water and sanitation. This strategic choice comes at a time when the challenges related to hydraulic infrastructure, engineering, and local industrial capacities are becoming increasingly significant.

A Key Association in Morocco’s Water Sector

Founded in 1997, AMEPA comprises more than 95 active members from both the public and private sectors, including ONEE, regional multi-service companies, operators, as well as industrial enterprises and specialized engineering firms. Today, it serves as a vital platform for coordination and collaboration among various stakeholders in the drinking water and sanitation sector.

Aiming for Structuring and Excellence

The new Board of Directors aims to strengthen the ecosystem of the sector by fostering better synergy among participants. The objective is to promote Moroccan expertise in water, engineering, and sanitation, positioning it at a level of excellence both nationally and internationally.
