Severe Weather Alert: Snow Forecast and Intense Cold Wave in Several Regions

The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has announced snowfall from Tuesday to Thursday across multiple regions of the Kingdom.

Snowfall Predictions:

  • Above 1,200 meters: Regions including Ifrane, Boulemane, Khenifra, Al Haouz, Tinghir, Taroudant, Ouarzazate, Midelt, Azilal, and Béni Mellal can expect 15 to 25 cm of snow.
  • Above 900 meters: Areas such as Taza, Chichaoua, Figuig, Driouch, Jerada, Taourirt, Sefrou, Al Hoceima, Guercif, Berkane, and Oujda-Angad will see 5 to 15 cm of snow.

Intense Cold Wave:
Accompanying the snow is a significant drop in temperatures:

  • Temperatures will range from -13 to -4°C in the provinces of Tinghir, Al Haouz, Azilal, Béni Mellal, Ifrane, Midelt, and Boulemane.
  • In Jerada, Taourirt, Khenifra, Sefrou, Al Hoceima, Guercif, Taza, Chefchaouen, Figuig, Chichaoua, Taroudant, and Ouarzazate, expect temperatures ranging from -6 to 0°C.

These conditions necessitate caution and continuous monitoring of official DGM bulletins.

Strong Wind Gusts:
Gusts of wind reaching 75 to 85 km/h are expected from Tuesday at 11:00 AM until Wednesday at 3:00 AM, affecting regions including Boulemane, Midelt, Nador, Jerada, Figuig, Driouch, Al Haouz, Tiznit, Tinghir, Taroudant, Sidi Ifni, Ouarzazate, Guelmim, and Assa-Zag. These winds will make travel difficult, particularly in mountainous areas.

Safety Recommendations:

  • Avoid travel in mountainous areas and on roads exposed to wind.
  • Protect yourself from the cold and limit outings as much as possible.
  • Regularly monitor official alerts from the DGM.
