Mr. Amerzag:

We also emphasize the importance of training human resources, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility, and involving all our partners, as the success of the ecological transition depends on collective mobilization that transcends the limits of the company.

In this regard, we are developing solutions aimed at improving resource use efficiency, reducing energy consumption, and supporting ecosystem protection efforts while ensuring the sustainable preservation of water resources, in line with the regional development strategy.

Mr. Amerzag:
Transparency is one of the foundations of environmental governance. That’s why we have ensured that the carbon assessment is based on traceable and verifiable data, subjected to a rigorous control process in compliance with international standards.

This approach fosters trust among all stakeholders, provides objective performance evaluation indicators, and encourages continuous improvement, in line with international best practices.

Question: In parallel with the carbon assessment, the company is implementing a strategic project for expanding the wastewater treatment plant. To what extent does this project illustrate your commitment to ecological transition and the circular economy? What will its impact be on water security and carbon footprint reduction?

Mr. Amerzag:
The expansion of the wastewater treatment plant is one of the strategic projects illustrating the company’s commitment to ecological transition and the circular economy. The current facility serves a population equivalent to 2.123 million inhabitants and treats an average of 78,000 cubic meters of wastewater per day. The new expansion will increase capacity to accommodate an additional 1.1 million inhabitants, with an extra treatment capacity of 66,000 cubic meters per day.

Thanks to this investment, the total treatment capacity will reach 144,000 cubic meters per day, allowing us to support urban and demographic growth, enhance sanitation services, and strengthen the protection of water resources and ecosystems.

One of the main benefits of the project is the increase in the production of treated wastewater for reuse, which will rise from 30,000 to 66,000 cubic meters per day. This change will reduce pressure on conventional water resources and provide an alternative resource for irrigating green spaces and other uses compatible with circular economy principles.

The project will also contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of the sanitation sector by limiting the reliance on conventional water resources, reducing the energy required for water abstraction and transport, improving treatment performance, and preparing for the future integration of energy efficiency solutions and renewable energy sources. This will enhance the company’s contribution to Morocco’s national objectives for greenhouse gas reduction and climate change adaptation.

The total investment amounts to approximately 905 million dirhams. The expansion is expected to be operational by 2026, making this project a strategic investment that balances water security, environmental protection, improved service quality, and the promotion of more sustainable and resilient development in the Souss-Massa region.
